Stay Positive On Your Weight Loss Journey

Stay Positive!!

Are you wishing for that magic trick to quickly get rid of those excess pounds?  And don't forget the six pack abs, and cut muscles.  That kind of thinking can actually hinder us on our journey to getting fit, and living a healthier life.  Here are a few tips to help you along the way.

Pay Attention To Non-Scale Victories

It is good to weigh, and there may be others that disagree with me on this one, but sometimes we can get to fixated on the numbers on the scale.  I'm not saying don't weigh at all, use it to gauge how well your doing, but don't let it send you in a downward tailspin.

Breakdown Your Goals

So it's good to have a big goal, but break down your big goals into smaller goals.  Maybe have a weekly goal.  Make sure that it's realistic.  Your goal may be to lose 50 pounds.  So you may say my goal this week is to lose two pounds.  So for the week your goal is for the two pound weight loss.  Don't think about the 50 pounds.  Only think about losing the 2 pounds during that week, and when you reach that goal you are allowing yourself to feel good about that accomplishment, and you're still working toward your bigger goal.  Each week, gradually make your workouts more challenging, more reps, or heavier weights, workout a little longer.  Maybe kick the workouts up a notch, with higher intensity.  You can make new goals for each week.

Be Reasonable

Don't go on crash diets, thinking you will get faster results.  Yes, there have been some folks that have done so and lost lots of weight, but guess what, they don't feel better, and their results don't last and they learned nothing about living a healthier lifestyle.  The extra weight didn't get there overnight, and it will take some time to get it off.  If you eat a clean diet, and exercise, you will feel better and have more energy, and you will see great results.

Don't Limit Your Challenges

You can do more than you think you can.  Nothing worth having comes easy.  What about how you feel after that workout!  You feel dedicated? Muscles are sore that you didn't even know you had.  Soon, you get excited to see what your results will be.  You will surprise yourself, it will motivate you to keep going!  Your getting stronger by each passing day!  You are creating your own magic!

Train Like There Is No Finish Line! It's A Lifestyle!

The meaning of life is not to "simply exist".  It's meant to move forward, to achieve, and accomplish more.  To conquer!

One day a light switch comes on that tells us we aren't getting any younger, and we need to start taking better care of ourselves.  It may have been getting out of breath when walking, or taking the stairs.  Whatever the reason is, listen to it!

What exactly does it mean to live a healthy lifestyle?  Some folks may have a different opinion of what it means to them.   If you were to look it up, it would say:  healthy lifestyle is one which helps to keep and improve people's health and well-being.  Doesn't really give you much more than that. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Interestingly enough, health is not simply defined as just the absence of disease.

The actual definition of Healthy Living is the steps, actions and strategies one puts in place to achieve optimum health. Healthy Living is about taking responsibility and making smart health choices for today and for the future. Eating right, getting physically fit, emotional wellness, spiritual wellness and prevention are all apart of creating a healthy lifestyle. Since the entire YOU, meaning all aspects of one’s self, must work in harmony to achieve wellness, you need to put balanced energy into each aspect of yourself.

Living a healthy lifestyle often depends on one's ability, and willingness to live healthy.  Situations change and challenges come along and create twists and turns.  Don't let the twists and turns create roadblocks.  Envision yourself healthy and fit.  Some things to help you would be:

Envision Yourself Healthy and Fit

Do you think you can think yourself thin?  There are studies that say it's possible.  Get you some visual pictures of what you want to look like, put it somewhere you will  you will see it, like the fridge or bathroom mirror.

Make A Goal

Think about what you want to change.  Use S.M.A.R.T goals.  Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-based.  Pair Up!  Encourage a friend to set healthy goals, too.  Check in with each other to help stay motivated.  Write it down.  Write down your goals somewhere you look often, like the refrigerator door.  Reward yourself. Treat yourself for a job well done.  A little reward for progress can go a long way toward helping you achieve your goals.

Diet

Pay attention to your portions sizes.  Meal plan, using Clean eating, Paleo, or Vegan.

Exercise

Get at least 30 minutes of exercise daily.

Manage Your Stress

Ask yourself, "Will this matter to me a year from now?" If not, why are you getting so wound up?

Sleep Better

Don't let sleep troubles linger for months or years. Get to a sleep specialist earlier rather than later, before bad habits set in.

Improve Your Relationships

Healthy living isn't just about your personal habits for, say, diet and activity. It's also about your connections with other people -- your social network.

Challenge Your Mind

Participating in mentally stimulating activities, especially activities that involve other people, may be good for the brain.

We should always be appreciative and grateful for life and what we have.  It's an ongoing battle to better yourself, to push your limits.  You may as well enjoy your journey!

Be Fearless In Your Pursuit Of Excellence

Make it your goal to live boldly!  You are in charge of your life!  Imagine the person you want to be, and the life you want to live, then commit to it.  Believe in yourself, embrace your beauty, and the healthy lifestyle you crave.  Discover, or re-discover your passion to be healthy and fit.  Don't be afraid to make a splash.  Dive right in!  The biggest mistake you can make in this life is continually fearing you'll make one.   Start living your life fearlessly.

You have a choice at who you are and the person you'd like to become.  You can change your life through choices you make and the actions you boldly take to bring those choices to life.   Make positive changes in your life.  Begin living your goals, dreams and desires.

Our healthy lifestyle journey begins with the desire to become healthy.  We all have our "Why"  we want to pursue our goal.  What is our motivation to achieve the goal?   We want to be healthy and fit, and of course, fit into anything we want to wear, and be comfortable in wearing it.

We can't turn back the hands of time.  Once it's gone, it's gone, it's over.   "What if" is the worse question you can ask yourself, especially when you know the answer.  So stop reading and get that workout in!

It's up to you to take the first step!

It's Best To Not Stress

I am looking forward to a stress free (negative stress) weekend!  I have had so much negative stress lately, that I need a break from it very much!  As you know it is not good for someone who is suffering from autoimmune disease to have any stress.  So, with that said, I am hoping for a (negative stress) free weekend.

I know that with having health issues it's not easy to always be stress free. You have this gnawing feeling of uneasiness dealing with not being healthy anyway, right?  Even worse if your family doesn't understand it, that can be very stressful.

You have to do what is right for you, and your body. Do whatever you have to do for your health and well being.  It is not the easiest thing to do, but it's worth it to your health.

Chronic stress has been blamed for a variety of health issues from heart disease, cancer, and obesity.  Autoimmune disease has been studied for its relationship to chronic stress.  It's been shown to influence a number of human inflammatory and autoimmune diseases like, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, colitis, multiple sclerosis, Sjogren's syndrome, Hashimoto's, even asthma and dermatitis.

If you are suffering from an autoimmune disease, you already know that it's a vicious cycle.

Major events in life are sure stressors.  Pinpointing the sources of everyday stress can be difficult.  To identify your true source of stress, look closely at your habits, attitude, and excuses:  Do you explain away stress as temporary? Like "I just have a million things going on right now."  Or "things are crazy around here lately."  Do you blame your stress on other people or view it as normal?

Keep A Stress Journal

A stress journal can help you identify the regular stressors in your life and the way you deal with them.  Each time you feel stressed, keep track of it in your journal.  As you keep a daily log, you will begin to see patterns and common themes.  Write down:
What causes you stress (guess if you're unsure)
How you felt, physically and emotionally
How you acted in response
What you did to make yourself feel better

Get Moving

Physical activity plays a key role in reducing and preventing the effects of stress.  You don't have to spend hours in the gym to get benefits.  Just about any form of physical activity can help relieve stress and burn away anger, tension, and frustration.  Exercise releases endorphins which boost your mood and make you feel good and it is a great distraction of your daily worries.
Maximum benefit comes from exercising for 30 minutes or more, you can start small and build up your fitness level gradually.  Take short 10 min. bursts of activity at first if need be.  The first step is to get yourself moving.  You'll have more energy and a much better outlook.   I have several programs that would help.

Engage Socially

Social engagement is the quickest, most efficient way to stop stress. It helps communicating with another human being who makes you feel safe and understood.

Reach out to family and friends and connect regularly in person. The people you talk to don’t have to be able to "fix" your stress; they just need to be good listeners. Opening up is not a sign of weakness and it won’t make you a burden to others. In fact, most friends will be flattered that you trust them enough to confide in them, and it will only strengthen your bond. And remember, it’s never too late to make new friendships and improve your support network.

Avoid Unnecessary Stress

Stress is an automatic response from your nervous system, some stressors arise at predictable times, getting to work, a meeting with your boss, family gatherings, for example.

When handling these routine stressors, you can either change the situation or change your reaction. When deciding which option to choose in any given scenario, it’s helpful to think of the four A's: Avoid, Alter, Adapt, or Accept.

However, it's not healthy to avoid a stressful situation that needs to be addressed, but you may be surprised by the number of stressors in your life that you can eliminate.

Learn how to say "no"  to taking on too much.

Avoid people who stress you out!  If someone continually causes you stress, limit the amount of time you are around them or end the relationship.

Take control of your environment.  If the evening news stresses you, turn it off.  Take the long way home, if it's traffic.

Alter The Situation

If you can't avoid a stressful situation, try to alter it.  You may have to alter the way you communicating and function in your daily life.

Don't bottle your feelings, instead express them.
If you can’t avoid a stressful situation, try to alter it.  If you don't voice your feelings, resentment will build and the stress will increase.

Be willing to compromise.

Manage your time better.  Poor time management can cause a lot of stress.  Plan ahead, and don't overextend yourself.

Avoid The Negative Thinking

How you think can have a huge effect on your stress levels.  Each time you think a negative thought about yourself, your body reacts as if it was really happening.

Think positive!  Don't fume in the traffic jam, instead listen to your favorite radio station and enjoy some alone time.
Ask yourself how important it will be in the long run.  Will it still be important a year from now?

Adjust your standards.  Perfectionism is a major source of avoidable stress.  Stop setting yourself up for failure by demanding perfection.

Except What You Can't Change

You can avoid many sources of stress.  You can't prevent or change some things that cause stress, such as the illness.  So the best thing would be to accept it, which is very difficult to do.  In the long run its best to do so, because you can't change it.

It's stressing to try and control the uncontrollable.  Instead focus on the things you can change.  Look for opportunities for personal growth, learn from your mistakes.

Learn to forgive. Accept the fact that we live in an imperfect world and that people make mistakes.  Let go of anger and resentments.  Free yourself from negative energy by forgiving and moving on.

Have Fun and Relax

Take charge and have a positive attitude.  Make time for yourself, have fun and make time for relaxation, you'll be in a much better place to handle life's stressors.  Don’t get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that you forget to take care of your own needs. Nurturing yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.

Make time everyday for "Me" time.  Do something you enjoy every day.  Laugh daily.

Healthy Lifestyle

Eat clean, avoid chemically processed foods. Follow Paleo, AIP, Clean eating lifestyle.  Well-nourished bodies are better prepared to cope with stress, so be mindful of what you eat.  Start your day with breakfast, and follow with balanced, nutritious meals throughout your day.  Reduce caffeine and avoid sugar.  Avoid alcohol and get enough sleep.  If you feel tired it will increase your stress.

Here is to us growing, and learning to deal with stress in a healthy way.

I would like to hear from you.  How does stress play a role in your health?  What helps you in dealing with stress?

How to Stay Fitness Motivated and Accountable

Today I thought that it would be nice to feature one of my favorite trainers for Motivation Monday.  Chalene Johnson is one of my fav Beachbody trainers.  She and Autumn Calabrese of course.  If you haven't tried one of Chalene's workouts you should.  She has several great ones.

It can be hard to stay motivated when you’re on your own working towards a large goal. We all have things we want to accomplish on our own, from losing weight to working out, or getting a promotion at work and sometimes we can lose focus. Accountability or keeping yourself responsible for your progress can be tough because there are times we just don’t want to work out, or that chocolate cake sounds so much better than a salad. These accountability tips will help you find and stay motivated, and learn several ways of staying responsible to your goal.

Five layer goals
It may sound more like an appetizer than a tip, but layering your goals will help you achieve them. Think of a large goal you may have, whether that’s losing 20 pounds, staring a business, or running your household. Looking at the goal as it is seems very large and can be overwhelming, but if you break it down into manageable goals, you’ll quickly be on your way to achieving them. An example would be taking a goal of losing 20 pounds goal and breaking it into 5 pounds per month. Now instead of feeling like 20 pounds is a lot to lose, 5 pounds in a month is about a pound a week and feels much more attainable. Holding yourself to choices that facilitate losing a pound in a week is a lot easier than willing yourself to lose 20 pounds overall.

Get a partner
We all have goals we want to accomplish on our own, but sometimes having a partner really helps hold you responsible. Having a partner will provide support and someone to talk to about how things are going. Partners can be found online, if you don’t have someone in your life already that can help, and finding someone in your similar situation may be just the motivation you needed.

In your household you can make someone like your spouse or child an accountability partner by explaining what you want to accomplish and why. Maybe you want to give up drinking soda or eating candy. If you queue your husband or daughter into your objective they may help more than you think. In order to make this successful make sure you give them permission to help. Help may be calling you out when they see you with that candy, or allowing them to take it away. Make your goal clear and outline what you feel acceptable help would be from them. Choose people you trust, love and support, and be sure to give them permission first.
Apps
The cell phone is part of our daily lives, so having apps to hold us accountable make perfect sense. Having an app front and center on your phone will act as a reminder of your goal and help hold you to it. For every day accountability, I use Awesome Note, which provides not only my goals, but also a way to track my progress.
For health and fitness related goals I use My Fitness Pal to track what I eat and remind me that a few handfuls here and there can really derail my progress.
If you want to work on goals in all different areas of your life then Success Wiz is for you. It’s a very detailed app that can help you see which areas in your life you can work on and track your progress. Make sure you have at least an hour to devote to this app when you first sit down to use it; it’s easy to use but provides so many options you’ll want to really spend some time here setting things up.
I use the app Inspiration to provide daily scripture in my life. Often this is something I neglect and found that if I spend a few minutes reading scripture each morning I feel more centered and able to focus throughout the day. This app provides daily reminders to read as well as the actual scripture, and helps me to keep my perspective and provides patience.
Want more great tips and resources on improving balance, energy, organization, health fitness, relationships, focus, faith and happiness?
